Daiquiri
At his favorite Havana bar, La Floridita, Ernest Hemingway's preferred daiquiri included grapefruit juice and maraschino liqueur. We love this simpler version, which is a better foil for hors d'oeuvres.

For One Drink1 1/2 ounces white rum |
Shake all the ingredients with ice and strain into an ice-filled glass. |

For Twenty Drinks3 3/4 cups white rum2 1/2 cups fresh lime juice 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons simple syrup |
Combine all the ingredients in a large pitcher, add ice, and stir for about 30 seconds. Spoon out the ice cubes. Store the pitcher in the refrigerator until party time. |
